In recent years, the refrigerated transportation industry has been quite hot, and many people have expressed their desire to enter the refrigerated transportation industry to earn some hard-earned money. For a newcomer to refrigerated transportation, it is still necessary to understand some basic knowledge of refrigerated trucks. Everyone knows that refrigerated trucks have their own refrigeration equipment, but how many types of refrigeration machines are there? What models of refrigeration machines correspond to each model? I believe that many people do not understand these. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand. Next, snewang will briefly introduce the three common types of refrigeration units on refrigerated trucks.

According to the refrigeration power on refrigerated trucks, they can be roughly divided into three categories: small refrigeration machines: non-independent units, medium-sized refrigeration machines: independent units, and large refrigeration machines: trailer units. The biggest difference between the three is the difference in refrigeration power. However, in addition to the difference in refrigeration power, the three refrigeration units are also very different in structure. Let’s look at the specific differences below.
● Small refrigeration machine: non-independent unit

Non-independent unit, through the literal understanding, everyone can guess some of the structure of the non-independent unit. The non-independent unit itself has no power, and the refrigeration compressor is driven by the vehicle’s engine. The refrigeration power of the non-independent unit is generally small, and it is generally used in small refrigerated trucks.
Since the compressor needs to be driven by the engine, the refrigeration machine will have a certain impact on the power of the vehicle when driving. Non-independent refrigeration units are mainly used in small refrigerated trucks such as MPV, VAN, and light trucks. Due to the limitation of the small space of the vehicle, and most of these vehicles are engaged in short-distance refrigerated transportation, it is more appropriate to use a non-independent unit refrigeration solution.
The refrigeration compressor is driven by the vehicle engine, and the condenser is placed on the roof or the front end of the cargo box. Non-independent units are generally used in refrigerated trucks with a cargo compartment volume of 4-31 cubic meters. Refrigerated trucks using non-independent units are generally used for short-distance transportation such as urban distribution. Of course, special refrigerated vehicles such as transporting medical vaccines are excluded.
● Medium-sized refrigeration machine: independent unit

The biggest difference between independent units and non-independent units is that they have their own independent power system. Refrigeration does not rely on the vehicle’s engine, but relies entirely on the unit’s own power system to drive the compressor for refrigeration. Therefore, the refrigeration power of independent units will be much larger, and they are generally used in refrigerated trucks with larger cargo compartments.
Independent units have their own power system, most of which are driven by a small diesel engine to drive the compressor. After the heat exchange of the condenser, the cold air is sent into the compartment through the air supply device, and finally the temperature inside the cargo compartment is reduced to meet the needs of refrigerated transportation.
Independent units are generally used in refrigerated trucks with a length of about 4-9 meters. At present, most of the common 6X2 and 8X4 refrigerated trucks in China use this type of medium-sized independent refrigeration unit.
● Large refrigeration machine: trailer refrigeration unit

The largest refrigerated truck on the road is the refrigerated semi-trailer, so the refrigeration unit used by the semi-trailer refrigerated truck is also the trailer refrigeration unit with the largest refrigeration power. In fact, the semi-trailer unit is also a kind of independent unit, but it is larger in size and cooling power than the independent unit used in 8X4 refrigerated trucks. The structure is also different from the independent units used in 8X4 and other vehicles. The trailer unit is often hung at the front of the trailer, so in the vehicle refrigeration unit industry, the trailer refrigeration unit is often classified separately.
The trailer refrigeration unit is generally installed at the front of the trailer, and many people are accustomed to calling this kind of refrigeration machine a hanging unit. The trailer unit has its own engine. Taking a certain brand of hanging unit as an example, it is matched with a 26.5KW 2.2-liter diesel engine to provide power for the unit, which can be used on 13-16 meters of refrigerated semi-trailers.
Some friends will ask, the current refrigerated trailers are not all hanging units, nor are they all independent units, but also have trigger units. Friends who have this kind of idea must have seen refrigerated trucks converted from second-hand sea cabinets. Since China’s refrigerated trailers are a bit special, most of them are converted from second-hand sea containers. These second-hand sea containers were originally refrigerated containers and will use the refrigeration units on the original second-hand sea containers, so strictly speaking, they are not vehicle refrigeration units.
Most of the refrigerated boxes of second-hand sea containers use plate machines, which need to be powered to work. This is also the reason why the current domestic semi-trailer refrigerated trucks have a generator set on both sides of the trailer. The refrigeration units specifically used for semi-trailers are mostly driven by diesel engines to directly drive the compressor for refrigeration, and are directly hung in the front of the cargo compartment. However, there are also cases where there are fully electric controlled refrigeration units that use diesel engines to drive generators to provide power for the compressor, but the price of such units is relatively expensive.
Through the introduction of this article, I believe that everyone has a simple understanding of the refrigeration units on refrigerated trucks. It is estimated that many people will sigh that there are three types of refrigeration units for refrigerated trucks? In fact, the refrigeration units of refrigerated trucks are divided into three categories mainly based on the refrigeration power and the application model. When refrigerating transportation, friends can consider which refrigeration unit to choose based on their refrigerated truck type, cargo compartment size, and transported goods.
